Before closing a thread

I've noticed how some threads are simply closed because one, two or more members may get into a heated debate and totally be off topic and when this happens usually the thread is then closed.

Is it possible to not close the thread because of actions like this? especially if the thread starter is not involved in actions as described?

Can the person or persons who are causing the problem(s)be dealt with accordingly instead of simply closing the thread?

Agreed!!! I hope that your "What ever happened to the concept of groove?" post does not meet this fate. The poster should not be penalized for the content of participants' replies!
