Disabling images in quoted posts

When a post containing images is quoted, the pics are re-displayed in full in the quoting post. With the volume of pic-heavy threads here (who doesn't like to look at other people's toys?), it can be pretty cumbersome to wade through them, especially with so many of the replies consisting of a string of duplicated pics, followed by "nice bass!".

Does the software support replacing quoted images with a text link to it's location? I've seen that on some boards. If someone needs to repost an image in a reply, they could still do so manually with the [IMG] tag.

Back in 2005 there was a hack for VBulletin that did this, however it's outdated with the current version. I'll keep my eyes out but I don't see any fix that'll work right now...

Eh, it's not that hard to spot the [img] code in a quote. Just edit it out, it's not that tough.

How about going into the quote when posting and deleting the image, its not a lot of trouble.

Yeah, it's easy enough for someone to reply without adding the unnecessary pics, but oftentimes they don't bother, either from laziness or lack of awareness.

And sometimes, where there are a multitude of images,
such as a bass thread, a poster does this to clarify which
picture he or she is referring to.

The Official Show-Your-Basses Thread Episode 5 (The Empire Strikes Back)

A set of like 29 photos of this guy's bass. Posted once by the owner and quoted THREE TIMES by people who didn't want to bother to edit out the IMG tags. That makes FOUR sets of the exact same 29 photos. That makes 117. Having to scroll through 117 identical photos to see what else has been posted... fun!

I think we just need to make it more taboo to quote photos. There's another forum that I go on where one of the number one rules is DON'T QUOTE PHOTOS. It's so ingrained into everyone's thinking that if someone makes the mistake of quoting a photo without editing out the IMG tags, he gets about 9587198 friendly reminders from other posters saying don't quote photos. Why not make this a rule here? It'll prevent stuff like what I showed above where there's 117 photos of the same bass.
