Email Notifications...

Sign in to disble this ad
I have searched for this and it hasn't been brought up: I notice how some forums (using the same forum software), in the email notifications, have the text of what the post has.. Is this a possibility here at TB?

For instance, in the current email notification, you get a link to the thread (will not go straight to the post on mobile devices) and that's it.. can we add the text of the post in the notification email?

Spanks,
NJL

The 'problem' with that (from the website's perspective) is that if you know the substance of the reply to your subscribed thread, you may not feel the need to actually come to the site and therefore not look at all the ads they've worked so hard to sell.

When I get emails from one of those forums that puts the content in the email notification, 1/2 the time I just read the email and that's it. When I get a TB notification, I click the link, go to the thread and see the response (and all the other stuff TB wants me to see).

We had this feature for a while, but Paul turned it off eventually. The real problem with it from a user's perspective is that it only shows the first post after the last visit to the thread. There may have been many more posts after the one the notification was sent for, so you really get out of the loop of the conversation if you only read the one. Plus, if you do this often, then there are more and more posts that you are missing because the forum software doesn't know that you've read anything - once it sends the email, it's done.
