I'm willing to bet more people play piano then guitar here. |

| | I try not to think...it hurts my head. | | Join Date: Jan 2002 Location: Cleveland, Ohio | | | I play guitar mainly for reference. But before a guitar forum, I'd rather see a forum for bassists who play drums, you know...a "rhythm section" section. I play drums at jam nights and such, but not real paying gigs. I also play in a band with a very good friend who's a fantastic bass player AND drummer. We talk about bass and drums all the time! |

That's too bad. You have a wonderful opportunity to expand your horizons, instead, you choose to remain recluse and detached.
You can go ahead and make pointless contrinutions. It's a relection on you, not me. It also says a lot about you're ability to relate to the rest of the world.
If you haven't noticed, there's more to a band than just a guy or gal playing bass.
I can understand why people view bass players with low regard.
You need to break free from you bubble. |

You started a poll and people gave their opinions, sarcastic tho they may be.They also voted in your poll.Just because people don't agree with you is no reason to say " you choose to remain recluse and detached".
To imply that people on this forum can't relate to the rest of the world because they don't want a guitar section on this forum is just insulting. Tubas play in the same range as bass guitars and uprights but I don't see anyone clamoring for a tuba section.
I ,like alot of TB'rs,play guitar as a hobby. But I don't really care about the newest guitars or guitar technology. And if I did, there ARE plenty of sites online I can visit to learn.
Your reaction reminds me of the kid who didn't get the peice of candy that he wanted. Please remember that TB is an ever-growing monstrosity already and that the mods are already overworked trying to keep up with it. ( No offense mods )

there are numerous guitar forums on the web, and some of them even have a very good vibe and great community ( www.sevenstring.org, for instance, is a great forum that i belong to - check it out, not just extended range guitars either, regular 6's get good mileage there).
the harmony central forums also have a good guitar subforum, you might want to check out.

guitar discussion is welcome there, as is drum, keyboards and even kazoo .
in fact, i bet there's an existing "tb'ers who play guitar"-type thread or club or whatnot already in existence there.

Yet, there are plenty of other places like "Ultimate Guitar," "GuitarForums," "Guitar World" and "JamSession Guitar" where guitarists gather like this. I voted "Yes" if it's limited to one sub-forum where guitarists can talk about anything. TB is the only open bass forum I have found, so there's no need to rush putting a guitarist sub-forum here. |

| | You don't want to do that. Trust me. Forum Administrator | | Join Date: Mar 2000 Location: atlanta ga | | actually this conversation has come up before, in the past and we've always come to the same conclusion that anything instrument-related but non-bass related would not only detract from the focus of the site but also likely to not be executed at the same level of quality that the rest of the forums maintain.
take for example the moderatorial requirements. we try to get mods who have some specific talents and abilities to share in the forums they moderate, along with having established themselves over time as good tb citizens . i don't know if we have long-established guitarists who have participated here for a while.
that being said, i've often thought that we could use talkbass as a template for other instruments - talkguitar, talkdrums, etc, if paul (site owner) was so inclined to set something like that up.
there again, it would take a while for them to get up to speed, and using talkbass as a complete template (rules-wise) might not be the most appropriate choice for other instruments.

| | | | Nope, for all the reasons stated above, espcially the one that we can already talk about guitars all we like, in Miscellaneous.

| | | | Might as well open it up for "Banjos and Bagpipes" there are so many guitar sites. I am in Bass rooms more than Bass Guitar rooms. I have played guitar since '66 and learned all my cords reading "Hand" of the Guitar player while playing Bass. But I'm just a "knuckle dragin' Wookie" from a time before "dirt". Primary instrument 5 string Upright. |

There is a real plus to this being a bass only community. | Quote:

On the one hand, it would be great to have a guitar sub-forum to discuss various things, but on the other hand, this is a bass forum.
Guitar would be no different than wanting a cello forum or a violin forum.
Lets keep it to bass. | Quote:
