Don't get me wrong, I think playing both bass and guitar is great. But TalkBass isn't about guitar; it's about bass. There are plenty of other guitar forums out there, but there aren't that many bass forums, and even fewer forums that focus on both electric and upright bass. I think it's best TB stays purely bass so it doesn't start getting populated with people who only play guitar and not bass. Because we know there are a lot more guitar players than bass players, what if that forum really took off and became a really large part of TB? Would it still be considered a bass forum?

There are many guitar forums, but I have not come across one as well-run as TalkBass.

I wish a few guitar enthusiasts would put their heads together and start a moderated board that is as informative and runs as efficiently as TalkBass.

Guitar players have a billion places to go. I say it should be left as is.

Even though I play guitfiddle too. Its just every guitar forum I've been to ends up being bunch of "my dad can beat up your dad" stuff.

That may be true...
But I would like to see a guitar forum on here.
Because here you wouldn't get "my dad can beat up your dad" stuff I hope. Because we wouldn't have "pure-bred" guitarists on the forum but mostly bassists who also play guitar. Different crowd.
And it would be nice to have a guitar forum under the TalkBass administered umbrella. (And a guitar subforum among a lot of bass specific subforums would show the bass' superiority over the skinny 6-stringer. )
That's the reason why I don't am on a guitar forum, not do badmouth other forums but there is much more maturity here on TalkBass.

Off course this is just my opinion.

I'm perfectly happy either way, discussing guitar related stuff in Miscellaneous is ok by me.

I'm in the "no" column. Not that it would bother me; I just see it as unnecessary. And I rather like the exclusivity factor.

I also play guitar and vote no. If you want to talk "guitar" to a bass player, post it in MISC. If you just want to talk guitar, then go to the interwebs and pick the guitar forum that is the best suited for you.

Let's leave TB for those who consider themselves bass players.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

No.

I'm on the NO side of things. Talkbass.com having a guitar forum is like Christianforums.com having an atheist forum....wait a minute....they do. I'm still on the NO side though. There are enough guitar forums out there.

That is a pretty brutal assumption about the community. Although this community is generally well-natured and respectful, not EVERY guitar player is a troll, cocky, or an idiot...

I'd like to chime in and say no to a forum dedicated to guitar, but I'd be ok with a sub forum for guitar and all other instruments collectively.

I wouldn't be down for it. I rather like being able to talk about my guitarist(s) behind there back and not have to worry (too much) about them finding out

No. I am rather proud of this being a bass site and would like to keep it that way. Closed minded?, most likely. But I really do like it just being a bass site. I don't want to see too many guitar gear adds flashing around all over. YMMV
