Yes you could defintely do that, the point is that TB doesn't cater for this now. None of the existing members were required to confirm their age (70,000+ members) and neither were the existing supporting members. I don't know the legality of such a declaration, but it would need to be legal in every jurisdiction that the site could potentially be sued in. There is nothing stopping someone in the UK sueing TB in the UK, although the judgement may be hard to enforce.

I am not sure that making a false declaration on a TOS would be considered fraud though unless there is a loss or gain to be made by doing so. If my name isn't really Mark Latimour, that's not fraud. Likewise if I am not 28, that's not fraud. If I tell my insurer that I don't smoke when I do, that is fraud because it will cause my premium to be lower (gain to me) and the risk to the insurer will be higher (loss to them).

This is a weakness of open forums. I don't know of any Internet reliable "proof-of-age" or "gender" certificates.

Linking users with a valid credit card would only filter out some users and some abusers. I think the best (and difficult) way would be to report/record inappropriate postings and banning them when a threshold has been passed.

I don't have a problem with posting abusers with their posting infraction histories. Even then, there is not guarantee that the person would register again under a different user name (forum-reincarnation).

If a user is a minor, his/her age MUST be visible with the user name. How's that??!!
I know a user can lie, but that's not preventable in any case.
For example, above, mine would show Enchanter_Tim(16).

I never bother with OT...takes up bass playing time.

Get rid of OT if it's a hassle. Nost of us live without it anyway.

I "opt out" of OT. Not sure I'd say to get rid of it though. That said, I would not miss it.

I'm weighing into this subject a bit late, and can't help but think the best solution is to allow any member, whether minor, male or female, to tell any other member to back off if they feel the content of that member's questions or replies are sexual or defamatory in nature, or are bordering on any type of implied harassment. And they should tell that person in a reply that if they continue, they WILL be reported to a moderator.

I've seen some members get a little "testy" at times during heated discussions, but as yet I've been fortunate to have not seen the come-ons this thread is alluding to. If I do, and I feel it's obvious, I will tell the person to back off myself, regardless of whether the member the "innuendo" is aimed at says something or not, and I hope you all will to. After all, some minors or members might still be naive enough not to recognize harassment, or too embarrassed to say something to or rebuff a more senior member.

If you're a pervert, fine, keep it to yourself. I'm sure there are plenty of websites for you to hang out in. And shame on you and your behavior if you post anything that an be construed as provocative or worse here. Talk Bass is a haven from the big bad world to me... and I don't want to see it tarnished by that type of behavior. If you don't have respect for yourself, at least have respect for the members here, especially the minors and women who look to us for advice and wisdom. In other words, I hope no "Wicked Uncle Ernies" will be tolerated here....

I personally like having the option of posting as much or as little information as I see fit, and would like to see the rules remain that way. The obvious solution is for everyone, either guest or member, to act courteously, and humanely when posting or replying in any thread, and to any member. If you're not sure whether what you're about to post is harassment, or in bad taste, it is....
