I think the natural course of effects usage here has evolved and there seems to be more and more of us here who are doing DIY effects: The Effect Builders Club!
The problem with a thread like this, as you can see, gets VERY cluttered. But there is a lot of great info there. It would be great to see a side forum to effects about DIY stuff. I know there are other forums out there for DIY effects, but TB is special and it would be the only DIY effects forum for Bassists using effects. I've seen more and more threads about people posting their projects and asking how-to questions. It would be great if there was one place to maximize info about diy effects.
Thanks!

Especially because there have been a handful of times when an "outsider" mod (someone who doesn't post a lot in the fx forum) got cranky and moved the DIY fx threads to the "luthiers" forum, with a stern note about how that's where that type of discussion belongs. IMO DIY fx is not luthiery.
If a new subforum is determined to be excessive, then we should at least have a good stickied DIY FAQ with a variety of links. |

Then again I worry that it will just be a hassle for the mods to be moving every post about modding a pedal for true bypass and chastising people for not posting in the right sub-forum!

It could even be about building your own amps and cabs and whatnot as well. We could call it the 'DIY Electronics' forum or something similar in order to encompass everything.

So the challenge would be to make the TB version relevant enough to bass equipment and bass-specific issues in order to not be re-inventing the wheel and having endless discussions that may have been plainly resolved or thoroughly explored elsewhere. |

While there are other sites with good contributors in the diy world, much of what's out there is guitar-centric, and leaves me wondering "how would this concept sound on bass?".

Already the thread is 6 pages long, and it has been discussed that information will be extremely hard to pinpoint in that format. Also, earlier, I checked DIYstompboxes and could find almost nothing that was bass specific. Seeing as how a lot of guitar effects suck the low end out of the tone when used with a bass, I would love to see a forum for DIY bass effects and mods. |

It would be a great place to get specific info about bass specific mods and builds! And I also enjoy the pleasant atmosphere around TB.

Would love a sub forum as well for there are no sites to my knowledge for DIY bass effects. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
