Why not create a talkbass wiki were everyone can add everything about everything in the world of bass?

Would be good to have an encyclopedia of all of the manufacturers, custom builders, parts, methods of fixing and cleaning etc...

Good idea I think!

Indeed It's been on my to-do list since December... Would be a great resource and place to house various FAQ's etc.

The trick for me, is finding a way to integrate everyone's forum login, into the MediaWiki user account system. This way to post/edit an article you don't have to make a separate login account. There are 'hacks' out, but I want to make sure I use a solution that doesn't become obsolete when the hack's author decides to stop supporting it...

One major hurdle, is that MediaWiki (the software behind a Wiki) doesn't allow spaces or underscores in login usernames - which would 'invalidate' many many TB'ers who have spaces or "_" in their username

Will keep y'all posted

I'm sure there's some script out there to counter that... Or I bet you there's some TB'rs that are programmers that can whip something up for you. If I could do it, I'd be willing to chuck in a few lines of code for some membership or merch. perks

Check out the occupation thread.

This might be a good place to start.

Well, I think everything has come together to allow this to work

Going forward, I'd like to get some input on how best this Wiki could serve the bass community.

Obvious uses would be pages on terminology as it applies to bass players (technique terms, tone terms, string types, amp types, etc etc).

How about individual products? Should we allow an entry for every model of bass or amp? It might be cool - but would this be of use, when users can just go to the manufacturer's site?

One thing I know wouldn't be good, is having editorial content (reviews) in the wiki.

Bass players and bands? Should we allow entries for every garage band, or just the 'greats'?

Obviously we'll need a panel of "super users" to make the big calls and cleanups, but for the most part it would be totally user-driven.

Thoughts?
