Ok, ok, I give in! You win Jazzbo I was hesitant at first because of overlap with Misc, but I guess with such a high volume of postings as we have, it doesn't hurt to subdivide and specialize a bit. No harm in giving it a try anyway, right?

I'd like to keep the bass humor/gig stories forum as is - I think it still has a place on TB. The Band Management forum shouldn't be used for pure story telling (although the posts will probably contain a backstory, the emphasis should be on advice & info, right?).

Guess there's not much to support since Jazzbo already got his way, but if you need another co mod I'd like a shot at it.

I think it's a nice idea.... thanks to Jazzbo for bringing it up! And if there is need for a mod, I'll throw my hat in!

I was waiting to see how this came out and now that I know, i'll put in my $.02 worth. I think this forum is a good idea. However, it occurs to me that, were it possible, we should have an industry pro look in on it from time to time and possibly co-moderate. You know, someone who is actually an agent, manager or a management executive from the music business. If we could find someone like that. Why? Well, as much as I want to see this forum actually be useful I'm afraid that it will be littered with misinformation from self-proclaimed know-it-alls. And when people ask the questions that seem inane and rote to most of us old salty cats, feelings will get hurt and no pros will be there to set it straight.
Here's hoping this won't become another forum I will have to avoid in order to remain my usual cheery self.

Dennis Miller off.

I don't know if I like that idea for two reasons: First, they'd more than likely be trying to get more clients in the process; also, who is to say that they won't also spread disinformation?

I agree with SMASH - there are plenty of fellows here that could probably out-manage a whole lot of the managers.

I'm very excited about this forum. I truly believe that talent only gets you so far, and I have been in so many very talented, but poorly managed bands, and so many bands with average talent and excellent management. It's always easy to know which one will be "successful."

While I am not a virtuoso or most accomplished musician, I know management, and I know people skills. This, not talent as much, has resulted in any success I've had in gigging.

The information it takes to manage a successful band is not always readily available. I've seen some great books on the market, but I know with the disparate group of individuals here, and all there years of experiencing, some really amazing help could be provided for young metal or punk fans, twentysomething hip-hoppers, 50 year old jazzers, or your guys in the 40s playing the blues. Whatever. When I started out gigging, if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have to worry about a day job these days.

I am certain that the new forum will be fine. I was only expressing my concerns about it. I've only been here at TB for 6 months but have noticed several things about the site since I took off my rose colored glasses a couple of months ago. One of those things is the abundance of people who are more than willing to be smart-asses (you know who you are!). They litter the other forums with short, snide and often rude comments, and a few purposely try to pick fights with people just for the sake of argument. Why should I think this forum would be any different?

I agree that TB is, for the most part, a place where an abundance of good, helpful information can be had. I've received good advice here myself. As jazzbo pointed out, the business end of music is the one that kills most bands and musicians, and readily available info would be great for those who want it and can accept the depraved ugliness that is the music business.

I will be watching with bated breath and a slightly cynical eye!

I run a tight ship in OT. If I were to mod this forum, it would be even tighter, considering that OT's purpose is not to educate or inform, like this new forum would be.

Hopefully, we'll stay on point, but you know how it goes Ineal.
