This happened to me last year and it took over a week to re-instate my status even though I immediately paid. This year, I received a reminder email before it expired (which I greatly appreciated).

IIRC, the forum software sends out an automatic reminder to renew your membership. I know I got one. Check your spam folder just to make sure it didn't end up there. However, software does do some strange things sometimes.

Do you know when you subscribed? Like Kelly said it may be a software goof. I'd make sure I got a full year though.

Kelly, How far in advance does the reminder get sent out?

Thanks,
God Bless, Ray

My start date 6/4 and I got an email on 6/2. So, not sure if the cutoff date would have been 6/3 or 6/4. Either way, I do appreciate the reminder.

Make sure your profile is set to accept emails from the administrator.

In light of this thread I went to check when my subscribtion expires.

I noticed something strange.

You can have a subscription for 80 years.

Will TalkBass garantee me that I will live that long?

edit:

Also something I don't understand,

for example a Gold Supporting Membership, you can choose for 60$, 80$ or 100$ a year.

Is there a difference?
Or is it just that you can voluntary choose a donation amount?

Thanks Freddels, I was thinking that if the reminder got sent say a month early, somebody might forget. A couple days would be no problem.

God Bless, Ray

Perhaps you should have posted your issues here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f59/ .

I'm sure Paul would love the feedback on this and will find ways to improve on the reminder-system.

Nala, I understand and sympathise with your frustration, and I agree that not getting a reminder is definately not cool, but computers are machines. Every program malfunctions now and again. I'd also like to know if this is a more common occurrence, but I assume it was just a software mistake and the administrators will make it right and correct the problem.

BTW Have you made sure your account will receive email from administrators as Freddels pointed out?

God Bless, Ray

Wow... a 100$ a year Gold Supporting Membership must have gave me some superpowers around here.

I suggested this thread should move here and it did.

I never got a reminder the last time either. All of a sudden I couldn't post anything. Reminders would definitely be good...

The forum system (vbulletin) automatically sends out reminder emails 3 days out. There is very little that can 'go wrong' with a simple mail function on a day-to-day basis. Therefore if you don't get it, I have to think that either your email client, your mail provider, or your ISP has tagged it as spam. If it's your client or provider, you can check spam boxes. If it's your ISP (aol, etc), you're out of luck. If for example AOL sees that it's receiving 100 "your subscription is about to expire" emails a day, and a few users click the "report spam" button to delete the email, AOL will start trashing the emails or blocking TalkBass subscription emails.

Given these facts, I highly recommend that you don't count on an email for your reminder. You can find your expiry date by clicking on "My TalkBass" -> "Paid Subscriptions". Then, add that expiration date to your iCal, google calendar, paper calendar, etc.

i would think that it was on my end except that i got birthday wishes from talkbass and they were not spam. i check all of my spam before deleting it and nothing from talkbass was there or i would have renewed it. and apparently i am not the only one that has not gotten a reminder. i just wish that someone would have a different explanation other than maybe it went to my spam folder.

Nalapit13, See above.

It may just be a fluke, and I'm sure you weren't the only one not to get a reminder, but has it made you so sore that you're not going to renew? Did you lose something in the process?

What viable explanation would suffice for you to accept it?
Seems to me you're extra sore over something IMO that's really trivial. Not getting a reminder and temporarily not being a Supporting Member isn't life altering. Is there an Issue over your upgrading to Gold Status?

At this point it is neither here nor there, as it is over and done with.

I'm curious of the resolution you were seeking though? As it seems you're still dissatisfied.

God Bless, Ray
