Issues flipping my email addy

I want to change my email address from the current setting to the setting I used a couple of years ago. When I try it I get the following

The email address you entered is already in use. If you have forgotten your password, please click here.
"
I ony have the 1 TB account and the email address I'm attempting is definately mine. How can I get that email address corrected ?
The current email address is bassman@gorge.net the one I'm attempting to set it to is mbrown1@gorge.net.

Hello,

There is an account with your old email, with a similar username, registered in 2006 but never used. Will contact you via email privately to resolve this.
