One of the major burdens on the server running this forum software is, in fact, the updating of the thread views count. You can imagine, every time a thread is viewed data has to be sent into the database to increase the counter by one. In order to alleviate some server burden, I've implemented a system that delays the view count insertions to the database. This takes a lot of database queries out of the pipeline.

In otherwords, the 'views' column is now updated about once very 15-30 minutes instead of instanteously. This is a standard feature in the new version of this forum software due out this fall (VBulletin 3.0).

Whoa, thats a good idea. I hope that programmer got a cookie or something for thinking of it... i wish i did.

Is the software really not out yet?

I could have sworn I was on a v 3.0 vB forum just the other day.

That's a UBB board (we use VBulletin). VBulletin 3.0 is still in beta stage
