Any bass mags still exist that include tabs?

I'm just getting back into playing after being away for nearly two decades. I still consider myself quite the beginner/novice with a lot to learn, but I'm having a blast doing it, so that's what matters, I guess.

Back in the day (mid 80s) I used to pick up Guitar for the Practicing Musician as often as I could because they'd include bass tabs for about half the songs they had guitar tabs for. Now I see that mag is no longer around... I'm also reading in this forum that there are a TON of tabs out there on the internet. The only thing with internet is perhaps a lack of quality control...

Anyway, are there any decent bass mags left that include tabs in each issue? Or has that gone the way of the dodo? I guess I could print stuff off the internet, but hooking up the printer is such a hassle. Just thought I'd ask... thanks!

Bass Player is OK. It's very US-centric (naturally) and women bassists are few and far between. It seems like Geddy Lee and Victor Wooten are on the cover every other issue.

Check out Bass Guitar from the UK. They cover the UK and Europe (as well as the obligatory Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, etc.) and in almost every issue they feature female bass players. The also have lessons, but usually no transcriptions or TABs of songs.

If you're buying a sub from the US it's expensive though.

There are a bunch of web-only mags like Bass Musician, that are worth checking out too. Do a Google search for them.

I did come across a few with a Google search, but wasn't sure which ones were considered quality and which ones not.

Sounds like Bass Guitar, while expensive, might be something to check out. I'm very interested in lessons, tabs or not, and the female perspective of course.

I'll give Bass Player another look as well.

Thanks!

check out the used books for back issues.....the geetar rags have more songs per issue and the lessons are nothing you can't find in a decent method book or on line.....lots of great lines can be found on youtube....

This is all true. YouTube is a great resource.

I find that many of the Guitar mags that have bass lines TABbed out are hard to follow (maybe it's just me). Naturally they favor the guitar line, but many times they'll TAB a guitar solo and take out the bass line completely until the solo is done. So you end up with a bass line that starts and stops, then picks up in another part of the song.

nope,it's the mags......they really seem to be onto paper conservation these days, especially the cheapo variety that the tabs are printed on.....i just convert to dots in down time at work but you really have to watch those "bass plays bass figure 1 for 3 1/2 bars" thingies.....and somehow the numbered bars don't always line up
