Bass solo pieces recomendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,
I'm looking for some nice sounding solo pieces so that I can entertain my family/friends when they want to hear something.
I have a four string with 21 frets and I'm up for any kind of style and genre of music.
Thanks

Stuart Clayton from Bassline Publishing has got a book coming out anytime soon called something like SOLO ARRANGMENTS FOR ELECTRIC BASS.

If you google you'll find him. There's a couple of YouTube vids out there with him performing a couple of the arrangements from the book - The Simpson's theme is one of them if memory serves.

I got a feeling that some of these are pretty advanced though (tapping/chords/etc) - but it might be a good fit for you???

You might want to try some Bach tunes. You can find tabs of 11 Bach tunes at BassMasta, http://www.bassmasta.net/b/bach/. There is also a book titled J.S. Bach for Bass.

The Jaco arrangement of Chromatic Fantasy always goes down well with metal heads, grannies and anyone with an appreciation of nice music... shame I can only play the first 30 seconds or so

Thanks for all the suggestion guys.
I like the Bach suggestion. I am in the progress of learning "Fur Elise" and its prooving to be quite difficult.
I'm lovin Stuart Clayton. I'm not THAT good at tapping but I'll definitely consider buying his book after just watching a couple of his videos.
I caught a video of Jaco playing Chromatic Fantasy earlier today, sounds pretty tough, I might give it a shot after this Bach tune.
And as for the "Bassically" solo before NIB, I've already learned that the last little part of it is a bit sloppy so maybe I should go back and try to tidy it up a bit.

if you like bassically (NIB), try the opening to war pigs, and then combine them to make your own as they're practically the same!
mix it all up with the high neck bit of sign of the southern cross (all 12s, 14,16s) and there you are.
