can i have some walking basslines?

jazz or whatever, i just want some tabs for some nice walking lines for me to learn and then break down and study. for a change in perspective. =)

My tabbing skills are primitive as you can see, but give this a try:

This is a simple walking pattern, all 1/4 notes, you can repeat. I adapted from a tab for the Allman Brothers "Must Have Done Somebody Wrong". You can play along with the song and it works great over other 12 bar C blues.

If you want to learn more about walking bass line I suggest you pick up Freidland's book.

AB and TB are like two halves of the online bass world, IMO. The forum here rocks and the one there is lame (and that's being kind because I do like AB) but that live tab they have there is great. Just be careful to include a dose of theory and notation also.

I'm sorry, I don't know how to read standard notation (I'm hoping to learn soon), but doesn't it say "C)" at the top there? Doesn't that mean it's in C?

Nope, if a scale is announced, it is written over the line indicating the beginning of the bar. So you'd have a C over the first vertical line.

In this situation, the C is written one time at the beginning of the song, next to the bass clef. It is a standard that can replace the "4/4" you usually encounter, meaning each bar is four beats long.

The indication of your tone, is the # over the F line. Once you know your scales, it's usually easy to decipher such instructions

In this case, the scale would be an E minor:

E F# G A B C D <-- We saw the F line had a #.

And it is written C because 4/4 time is also referred to as Common Time.

You know what? I didn't know. Most of my musical learning has been done in french, where we have do-ré-mi-fa-sol-la-si, and where there is no word associated with C. Thanks for the heads up
