The Clash - should I stay or should I go

We're doing this song. I was practicing it with my tascam bass trainer and my bass was overdriving it which gave me an overdriven sound. I thought "This is perfect to get closer to the sax sound."

So, my question isn't about notes to play, but how do you immitate that sax sound. Is it thrugh pedals, which ones, or maybe you just overdrive the amp. I play a Cirrus into a GK 1001rbII into a Dr Bass 210 + 115.

I'm not a big effects person and probalby wouldn't use it much anywhere esle, but I'm doing someone else's music and this helps me get closer to the original, which does sound great. However, maybe a distorition pedal would be nice to have on hand?
