Coldplay-Trouble....I dont understand something bout these notes

Sign in to disble this ad
G---------------------
D----0h1h2-----------
A-----------0h1h2----
E-3-------------------

If im correct...the notes are G,D,D#/Eb,E....A,A#/Bb,B.

Now after kinda understanding the relationships of scales and keys....how do these notes fit with each other? After looking at every minor and major scale on paper accordin gto that these notes dont go together like theres no D and D# or E and Eb in a scale same thing with A and A# or Bb and B. Help me understand.

Notes that aren't in the key or scale can be used in passing and aren't necessarilly in the key. This is one of the greyer areas in music theory... but simply put, they don't offer any chordal value, just melodic.

Yep, they're passing notes. They can sound quite cool but don't sound good everywhere. Notice how the A and the Bb lead to the B. Aside from the G at the beginning, the B is the "important" note that defines the G major chord.
