ok guys, so older jazz is definitely not my forte, but my wife runs the band since shes got the pipes, and she wants to cover cry me a river by julie london, and i can hardly make out what the bassist is playing (hes playing a stand up), and is hitting some tweener-notes so it make picking it out hard on a fretted bass.

any help?
thanks in advance
julian

Can you play from chord symbols? Being a jazz standard it's in one of the real books (can't remember which one) and you're not tied to playing any specific line.

no, not really. i mean i know what majors and minors are, but im not real good with scales yet. the sad thing is that i had a short stint with my high school jazz band, but it was only the last month of school so i didnt learn very much.

OK, here's a link to ... uhhh ... Susan Boyle singing it, and the bass line is much simpler. You may be able to get the chord pattern from it, then build on that.

Munjibunga, thanks so much for the help.

LowBSix, i can listen for the rhythm, and i forgot how to read bass clef music! i can only read treble clef well, just because thats what i used most in school.

You might want to read the sticky in this section

A friendly reminder about the Tab forum rules

Especially the quote

"This is NOT the forum to discuss the merits, or lack thereof, of the tab system. Discussions about this have led to arguments in the past, which is unnecessary. A search of the GI forum will provide you with all of bickering you could want.
