Freda Payne - "Band Of Gold"

Anyone know where I could find the bass tabs to this song? Online, book?

Thanks,
Steve

I managed to get the intro down. I actually had it like this at first...

G ------------------------------------------
D ---------5----3---------------------------
A --------------------5------3--------------
E ----3-----------------------------5-------

But was told it should end with Ab instead of A. Like this.

G ------------------------------------------
D ---------5----3---------------------------
A --------------------5------3--------------
E ----3-----------------------------4-------

And the clip...

I haven't had time to try and mess around with it anymore. I guess I'm gonna have to check out the chords to the song to see if that can help some. I'm not tryin' to play it exactly the way Bob Babbitt did note for note (I doubt I could play it like that anyways). I just wanna get it down to make it sound close.

Try grabbing this Band of Gold MIDI file and dropping it in GarageBand
or opening it with Guitar Pro (that's what I did). Here is what it has:

I tried the free Guitar Pro 5 and when I opened the Midi, it doesn't come up with anything like that.

Will the guitar pro actually make a bass tab of the entire song? I noticed the intro of the midi is just the 2 measures of bass only but then adds more music.

I can't even play a midi file. When I click that link or any midi file, I don't get a sound using windows media player. I have a program I used to convert the midi file to a mp3. That's the only way I can hear it.

Guitar pro has got an importing midi option with which you can make it transcribe any track of a midi file. Just go to file, then click import midi, in the dialog box select the create a new track, set it to be bass guitar; choose the track of the midi file where the bass is written/recorded then choose the quantization settings and click import the selected track into guitar pro track and there you have it.

I really appreciate the help. But I guess I'm not doin' somethin' right because I can't get it to work.

It's not showin' anything like the above tab.

I don't know how to show what it's doin', but it's comin' with this for the 2 measures of intro...

G-----------------/----------------
D-----------------/----------------
A-----------------/----------------
E----3----1-------/----3----1------

And the intro obviously is more than just 2 notes. I don't know...

Guitar Pro is a bit of pain but it does import MIDI and it does display tablature. I only mentioned it because it does work, it's cheap and most people have Windows computers.

With GarageBand on a Mac, you merely open a new project and drag the MIDI file in. People who do music without Macs really don't know what they're missing.

I should point out one more item. GarageBand won't show the tablature as I've shown above. That requires Logic Express ($199) (or Logic Pro) on a Mac.

Band of Gold bass line

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone who's interested I had to transcribe the line.

jrmintz. You don't know how happy I am that you posted this pdf. The timing of your post couldn't be more perfect because I need to learn this song. When I was trying to transcribe this song, I found that I was having a hard time picking out notes, partially because the not-so-good recording and partially because he's playing some unorthodox stuff. This transcription save me so much time and answered a lot of ***'s. Thanks again. Did you transcribe this, or find it somewhere?

Hi yedimon,

I transcribed it. I'm glad you found it helpful. It's basically a repeated part with some variations, so once you get the main part the variations shouldn't be too hard. It never stops moving.
