Help/advice needed

Hello

I've been playing bass guitar for about 8 months now and I've learnt some pretty cool tunes along the way. I've been through all of the recent posts for similar requests and I've learned most of the tunes recommended.

I would appreciate some bass riffs which are a bit more specific to my musical tastes.

Recent riffs which I've really enjoyed learning/playing:

RHCP - Nobody Weird Like Me
RCHP - Guitar intro for 'Under the bridge', played on bass
Jet - are you gonna be my girl
Interpol - The New
Tom Vek - If you want
The Strokes - Vision of division guitar solo by Albert Hammond Junior, on bass
Kings of Leon - slow night, so long bass intro

Also really simple, famous and cool riffs like 'Smoke on the water' and 'sunshine of your love' would be great.

I love bass riffs like in Interpol, We are scientists, Kings of Leon, Bloc Party and my fav bassist is Carlos from Interpol...just listen to 'The New'...it's a great bass song although very impossible to tab the whole song accurately.

I'd really appreciate your recommendations to suit the style of riffs that I'm into at the moment.

'The New' by Interpol and the guitar intro to 'Under the bridge' are ideal, because they can be learned reasonably quickly, they are the right length (about 30 seconds) and they are just pretty damn cool.

Thanks to anyone who can help out - it would really be appreciated!

Hi mate

I've looked on most tab sites and played most of the good bass songs which I'm familiar with (ie by the bands I mentioned), as well as some seminal bass tunes...I'd just really appreciate it if somebody could point me to some different bass tunes which you think I'd enjoy playing

Cheers

Titan, I get what you're saying. I play in a three piece band and some of the stock (for cover songs) basslines aren't good enough...you want to be able to play the melody as well. Look under guitar tabs (for stuff like under the bridge) and convert to bass. Sometimes you'll have to play a scale way high on your bass to do it, but it sounds cool when you do. Eventually you'll be able to do this by ear and it will improve the basslines that you write...not limiting them to normal stock lines.

Thanks Zapp, much appreciated!

I'm also trying a few guitar solos which work on single strings and the odd 2-string chords. At the moment learning ****s of Leons' Red Morning Light solo: http://www.xguitar.com/guitar-tabs/*...ning_light.txt

a really really cool tune especially if you like the chili peppers and funk style bass lines with slapping look at the song True Men Don't Kill Coyotes by the Chili Peppers its on their first album. The intro to the song has got to be one of the coolest sounding bass lines ive ever heard. The rest of the song is cool, but I like to play the intro and then improvise or make up the rest. You can find it on a tab sight im sure. It's not to hard and it's definately a song that will make some heads turn.
