i've got a question about tab.

ok, im new, only beeen playing a couple of months, and i am teaching myself. thats why i don't understand this. i saw this in a tab for "Toxicity" by System of a Down. could someone please explain to me wht to do when i see this?

i hope that showed up. if it didn't its two numbers on top of each other. im sorry im teaching myself and i wanna learn some songs i like just to get my fingering and that stuff good. could somebody please be very cool and help me with my question? thanks.

A number on top of number usually implies a chord, play both notes in unison. But judging by the fact that it's Toxicity and Shavo is in dropped-C tuning that would make an awful awful poopy sounding power chord. I'd say just play the bottom note, unless this three on top of a three is in some place other than in the tab itself, then I don't know.

Can you post a link to where you got the tab, assuming you got it off the net, and not from a book. I'll look at it and figure out what it is.

Like Matt said, it's probably two notes played in unison.
