Recently got asked to play bass in a classic rock band and I'm working hard and fast to learn their setlist.

I've got the progression down to this Steely Dan song, but I'm struggling to hear everything that the bassist is doing on this tune.

Anyone play this song, have any thoughts on learning it by ear?

(I know it is a vague question, but I'm not struggling with any one part, but rather trying to add interest to the song as a whole piece. Right now I'm playing the 1's 5's octaves and some transitional notes, but I know there is a lot more going on in the song)

listen to the entire aja album, and for that matter, buy the dvd 'making of aja' and hear chuck talk about it himself...

the above website has numerous SD midi files

drop the midi file into a music editor, solo the bass, and funk out!
