Please help w/ "Rock Steady"

Not sure if I'm putting this in the right section or not. I am a somewhat beginner bassplayer and working on developing my ear and a sense of groove. I am trying to learn Aretha's "Rock Steady" since it's just so damn good. Anyway, I think I might have the main riff but it just doesn't feel right.
Code:
------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
---------------------3--------------------
-5--5--5-p 3 -5--3------------------------
There seems to be something going on between the first two notes that I just can't seem to get.

Also, after some of these riffs there is a triplet higher up on the neck. Anyone know what's going on there as well? Gonna keep on working on this tonight, any help wold be appreciated!

Just feel it out and groove it. I don't notice any pattern.
Just heard it for the first time tonite tho.
