Be specific man, that question is impossible, cool in itself is a loosley defined word that means different things to different people. Now if you asked for the "Funkiest bassline ever" for example that would narrow the field down at least to a sensible size.

Simple bassline, but very powerful. It almost defines the whole song.

| | | | Well I guess I gotta write something to earn me my name so I'd say
Hang up your hangups - Herbie Hancock /w Paul Jackson on bass (bet ya didn't see that one coming).
Anyway, I'm just posting for the sake of posting and that song came to mind basically cause I'm listening to it right now.
Other than that one there's just the 500 songs I've got in my iPod plus a whole bunch of others as well.

best overall bassline ever, period. |

| | | | There's a lot of technically challenging basslines out there. I can cover just about anything I can hear. I'm not going to cite anything difficult here, since the question was "what's cool?" not "what's a challenge?".
I think it's cool when I can relax, and play, and smile. I'm going with three that just make me smile ear to ear when I cover them. They're not hard, just fun:
Steely Dan - Peg
Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered
Beatles - Eight Days a Week |
