| Guess I'm late to this discussion, I just stumbled across this site looking for the song "For Once in My Life" and thought I'd register. I'm not the best at reading music either, but if you have Standing in the Shadows of Motown, and a copy of the song (you can also use the CD in the set), play it and just read the sheet music as you listen to the song. There is also a set of scales Jamerson used which are in the flats he mostly played. I've been practicing a few hours a week when time allows and my reading has improved. I try not to use tabs because #1 learning by ear gives you the feel for a song, and #2 using tabs one can get to reliant on reading the numbers instead of actual music. |
