So, uh, is anyone daring enough? I'm just wondering what spastic notes on sheets look like.

I got nothing myself, but on www.jacop.net (a tribute site run by his ex-wife I believe), they have this photo:
Does this help?

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I just stumbled over this recording of Crisis which I never heard before but I'm a rabid Jaco fan...

and whatever the hell he is doing on this track has me just in awe, I'm totally amazed by it. It's very mean and growly and he has a weird effect on it. I saw that picture on Ingrid Pastorius' website of the score for this tune but it's still very confusing. The sheet says its in 12/8 but I just hear a fast 4/4. And the whole thing just sounds atonal. Pretty damn daring piece of music to put out there IMHO.

That recording is so schizophrenic, and I mean that in an awesome way. If I remember correctly, Jaco recorded his bass part and then when the other players were playing/improvising he muted other instrument and then would unmute them as they were playing.

Ya, most people don't notice that he's actually playing the **** out of that bass. I doubt there's ever going to be an official-like transcription of that song.

It seems like almost all dead notes to me, anyone else?

Yes, Jaco would fade in/out the other players...he fed his bassline randomly into their mix. Milkowski's Jaco bio talks about "Crisis" & how Jaco's stubborness that it OPEN his 2nd album was a blow to his relationship with Warner Brothers (IIRC, the execs at WB wanted FUSION & not some mindfreak of a piece).

"Crisis" is a serious piece & I suppose it is an aural representation of shizophrenia.
Try on The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" for a sound collage of an LSD trip.

It's actually a sequencer repeating a complex phrase over and over. Here's a quick transcription of the line. I also ran it through a sequencer to get the audio.

Cheers,
Joe

Are you sure it's a sequencer? That does seem very accurate.

Positive, read about it somewhere years ago. Jaco used some keyboard that he had. Plus, it goes out of the range of a four string. I'll try and find the article I read.

Also, that score of crisis on Ingrid's site looks like the distorted line Jaco plays on the title track "word of mouth" must of been an early draft.
