sheet music input software

Is there a website (or software) that allows you to input sheet music? I'm planning on writing music, and it would be easier than writing it/scribbling it on paper.

would i have to use guitar pro for that? I'm hoping for something that's free.

Do you mean a notation software? Something to write notes directly on your pc or mac?

The professional ones are Sibelius and Finale (I use Sibelius), but they are expensive. I haven't looked for free ones, but I'm sure there are some out there.

Guitar Pro is good to start with; when I got it (back in Version 5 days) I believe I paid $49.99. A bargain considering how huge a leap it was from writing by hand, and you can download tabs for songs from places like 911tabs.com that you can open with GP like a score, so you can play along with it, read the notation and change the tempo if you wish.

If you're doing a lot of "idea stamping," i.e. jotting down musical ideas you come up with on bass, it's great for that, and you can also compose pieces by adding other MIDI instruments and writing parts for them. If you plan on doing serious composing, and have the capital, I recommend Sibelius. It's immensely powerful and intuitive to use (easier than Finale) although it has a hefty price point. Not quite as simplistic as GP, but it's much better for full-scale compositions with large ensembles. I don't even want to think about how my 12-tone piece for Pierrot Ensemble would have turned out by working in GP...

Sibelius will do that. You create a notation staff and enter your notation. And then create a Tab staff and copy and paste your notation to that. And it comes out as tab.

You might want to check out noteflight.com - you have to register, but it's free to use and it's in the cloud so you can get to it from anywhere.

MuseScore

Just found Musescore(or rather my 17 yr drummer son found it. I downloaded a copy and had a song going in 30 sec.
Here's the down and dirty
Open a song template( Lead sheet works good for simple stuff)
Pick your time, length, etc
When you get to the score sheet hit the big N then start clicking notes onto the score sheet.
Man it is sweet for simple stuff. Looks like it has more features, but this is probably all I will use.

Best,
Steve
