Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - Baby, Baby Don't Cry (bassplayer?) Does anyone know who played bass on this song? Wikipedia says "The funk brothers" but it certainly isn't James Jamerson. Other articles say that the Funk brothers were not around at the time of this recording. http://www.basslessons.be/transcriptions.php?i=87 |
Just guessing but it sounds like it could be Michael Henderson. The Funk Brothers were supposed to have not played on that track, and I read that The Miracles played the instruments, but I don't know if any of them were bass players. |
Thanks for the reply. That's what I've read too. But nowhere a reference to someone playing bass. I had looked up Michael Henderson too, but his wiki page only mentions him as a leader or as a member of the Miles Davis Band. |
He was a Motown bassist, I think during the mid to late '60s. He sounded like Jamerson but a bit less busy from the songs I've heard he played on. Doesn't sound like Babbitt. Maybe Tony Newton, he probably toured with the Miracles? I'm no expert, though a few here are. Hope they see this thread. |
