Stupid Question

Im fairly new to bass and i can read tabs well enough to play some songs but im not sure on one thing. i understand 2-2-2-2 but what do you do if it is -2222-555--- do you just let it ring or pluck that number of times but faster than usual. Stupid i know but i dont wanna learn it the wrong way and then get stuck in my ways. Thanks

you pluck it that many times but fatser. usually if youre to let it ring it will say, or maybe have ~~~ after it.
