Does anyone have a bass tab for "I Don't need no Doctor" - John Mayer.
Or know where I can get one.

I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find one.

Thanks

Jeff

The tune/lyrics are not John Meyer's. They're Ray Charles'

I'm liking that JM version, thanks for posting the request.

However, it's a rather different arrangement from the original Ashford & Simpson number (covered pretty straight-up by Ray Charles and also the New Riders Of The Purple Sage), so I don't know how effective a transcription of that version will be tbh.

Compare & contrast:

John Mayer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jhmXSncOL0

A & S: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T9tOvseoBA
Ray C: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkZT1IMRU6U

Oh, there's the Pie version too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lxyRjzXvxo

Personally I'd stick it on a loop until the changes have sunk in & then play accordingly.

Pete.

I used to cover this song in a band. You can find YouTube videos showing how to play it on guitar. That'll help a lot. And IIRC, its actually on a John Scofield's album (which explains all the unusual chords).

Heres a very rough idea of the chords:
The main riff of the song is E -> G -> A

The chorus is something like: Db -> D -> A -> C -> G

And the bridge is: B -> A -> G -> A

I'm sitting at work, and relying on my memory from a few months ago, so I apologize for any inaccuracies. But it'll get you going.

Pretty good, but I went ahead and corrected the chorus as I played this song a few months ago (the John Mayer cover version).

During the verses I simply played E7 (with a #6). I don't know how that fits in theoretically but it sounded pretty blues-like and that, I guess, is/was the point.
