A tab to impress people with...?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am a reasonably experienced bass player and Im alright, but and sound good playing with a band. However, when I just pick up a bass and my friends tell me to play something, I dont really know anything that sounds good on his own.

Does anyone know any tabs that sound really impressive when just played on there own? And are a decent length

You could try "Amazing Grace" Wooten/Jaco style to impress other musicians or "Higher Ground" by RHCP to impress your average Joe.

There are lots of cool basslines that sound good on their own, that a lot of people would consider "amazing" - some of my favorites for wanking to are "YYZ" by Rush, "Tempus Fugit" by Yes, "war Pigs" by Black Sabbath, "Holy Wars" or "Peace Sells" by Megadeth, "Anasthesia" by Cliff Burton (Metallica), "Ace Of Spades" by Motorhead, etc etc

it all depends on what kinda music you like though, the ones I mentioned are all rock/metal.

Otherwise some simple chilli's riffs like Higher Ground as mentioned above, or the bass riff from RATM's Take the Power Back sound pretty good too.

Smoke and Mirrors by Symphony X is a pretty good one to show off.

Here, tempo is 130, the original song is in D, but whatever the tuning, it sounds like you're a psychotic neo-classical bassist from hell.

F||-----------------------------------|------2-1-2-------2-1-2-------1-2-|
C||------2-----------3-0--------------|------------------------0-0-0-----|
G||--0-0---0-0-3-2-0-------------3-2-|--0-0-------3-3-3-----------------|
D||----------------------4-0-4-0-----|-----------------------------------|
A||-----------------------------------|-----------------------------------|

----------------------------------|------------------------------------||
------2-----------3---------------|------------------------------------||
--0-0---0-0-3-2-0---5-2-5--2-----|------3-2-3-------------0-2-5-3-2--||
---------------------------4--4-0-|--1-1-------1-1-1-4-0-4------------||
----------------------------------|------------------------------------||

Johan-Sebastian Bach's BWV1007 is another great one, just play it faster than its meant to be played and you have a great show off tune.

Or just do some random tapping. Tapping always works. Lots of tapping. Always.

"The Awakening" by Les Claypool
"The Sinister Minister" by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones"
"Mr. Pink" by Level 42

Those are the ones that I usually play when people want to hear some slapping.

IMHO, it is hard to imagine anything LESS impressive than a tab.

Try learning Soul to Squeeze by RHCP. Not too difficult, a lot of fills, cool breakdown. No Hero by the Offspring is cool.

Man, just take some of your favorite songs that you don't think you can learn, and learn them. Push past your limits. You may think you sound like crap at first, but with practice, it gets better.
