First of all, i would like to say hello. This is my first post and i am a new member. I have been playing bass for about 2 months and know about a dozen songs. Back to the subject. I would like to move on and start playing in my jazz band but i have one problem. How do i convert my sheet music in a tab or how do i know the fret makes what note? I know how to read sheet music, i have been playing Tenor sax for 3 years and Piano for about 2. Is there a page you guys could give me that show what fret makes what note? Thanks for all you help.
here's one source. Check out the rest of the site too, it has a lot of stuff
Lol thats my teachers website. Any way if you have been playing tenor you should know musical theory well enough (i have played alto for 3 years playing a bit of tenor this year and I've been playing bass for about 2 months now as well). This is pretty much how to think of it. The thickest string (closest to the top) is an E the string below it is A the one below that one is D and the smallest one closest to the Floor is G. Each fret is half a step so 1st fret on the E string would be a F 3rd fret on E would be G etc. Only thing different about reading a bass cleft is that the notes are one space and one line lower than on a treble cleft (a C on a Bass cleft would be where an A is on the Treble Cleft). Good luck with bass. Saxophones rule.
