First of all, i would like to say hello. This is my first post and i am a new member. I have been playing bass for about 2 months and know about a dozen songs. Back to the subject. I would like to move on and start playing in my jazz band but i have one problem. How do i convert my sheet music in a tab or how do i know the fret makes what note? I know how to read sheet music, i have been playing Tenor sax for 3 years and Piano for about 2. Is there a page you guys could give me that show what fret makes what note? Thanks for all you help.

E string goes:
E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E.
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12

A string goes:
A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A.
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12

And so on.

Lol thats my teachers website. Any way if you have been playing tenor you should know musical theory well enough (i have played alto for 3 years playing a bit of tenor this year and I've been playing bass for about 2 months now as well). This is pretty much how to think of it. The thickest string (closest to the top) is an E the string below it is A the one below that one is D and the smallest one closest to the Floor is G. Each fret is half a step so 1st fret on the E string would be a F 3rd fret on E would be G etc. Only thing different about reading a bass cleft is that the notes are one space and one line lower than on a treble cleft (a C on a Bass cleft would be where an A is on the Treble Cleft). Good luck with bass. Saxophones rule.
