You're kidding right?? The entire song has 4 chords..use your ears and learn it the old fashioned way..by doing that you'll also learn about 500 other songs that have the same chord progression.. Sorry but I'm going on a rant right now..I can't believe how friggin' lazy people are these days that they can't sit down long enough to actually pick out the roots to a 4 chord song. It's a country song, how hard can it be?? Thank you, this concludes my rant!!

Actually I think it's GDEC GDCC. With the 5ths of course, or a walking line if you want to make it move a bit more.

That would be the winning progression....

Though I tend to walk the verse and sols, and whole note the chorus. I am generally singing lead on that tune as well. I call for at least one accapella chorus as the only reason to do that tune is for the harmony opportunities... IMO of course.

+1 4mal

Same here as I do harmonies on the tune. It may be a simple tune, but gets great crowd response and with good harmonies we usually get a few head nods from fellow musicians.

What is it with that song? It's like the Mustang Sally of Americana.

I thought it was A?

The chords posted above look correct for guitar if your factoring in the capo on the 2nd fret right?

Unless I am completely wrong (havent played it in a long time and dont have an instrument with me) but from what I remember it was A-E-F#-D then A-E-D-D (playing that as root-fifth)

So in tab would be something like this

-2--------------------2-------------------------------------------
---2--2----4----0-------2---2-----0-----0-------------------------------
--------2----4----0------------2-----0-----0--------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------

and then some little walks somewhere in there at certain points of the song.

Am I wrong?

Here is an old crappy cover I have on youtube (I still suck on upright so its just straight root-fifth with no walks and a bit sketchy on the timing but you get the idea).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocMh75BrL8Y

There are definitly better positions to play it in but thats where I usually play it on upright now.

Well, not quite. In a slow 2, country:

G D Em C
G D C C

Repeat until it's over.

Or it's in A? Never played along with the actual recording so... That's how I have played in two different bands, both of which only grudgingly played it. I would so much rather play Mustang Sally, but at my gigs this is what the kids want to hear.
