Cool Favorite

Used to be the Cream version of Crossroads.

Now it's either Ramble On or Limelight.

It changes periodically!

Currently, it's the next song I get to play for an audience:

Joe Cocker's "Unchain my Heart" on Sept 5th.

After that, it will be the next song I get to play for an audience. Which will probably be

Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" on Sept. 26th.

I don't really have a favorite nor do I play other artists lines very often unless they illustrate the usefulness of something, a technique or otherwise that I'm trying to learn but I find myself playing Birdland by Weather Report quite a bit lately. I'm sure many of you have heard it. It features the the use of harmonics, octaves, and is a really great examle of using harmony on the bass rather than just sticking with the root notes. But what else would you expect from Jaco? The hardest part of the song is playing the harmonics at the opening. The other parts aren't very difficult and it's really fun to play.

I really like to play Sir Duke By Stevie Wonder. The line is so cool and smooth.

I am also getting into a lot of Iron Maiden. So The Trooper, Run to the Hills,

I am currently working on 2 minutes to midnight by Iron Maiden, Great song, Great bassline.

I am also working on Overjoyed by Victor Wooten. This is my first tapping line I am learning. I am starting to get it. It is a great song, the melody is so rich and smooth.

Pela Janela by Thievery Corporation. It's incredibly simple, but it's a lot of fun to groove on the quarter note triplet feel. It's my go-to song when my guitarist takes a tuning break on stage. My drummer throws done a nice latin beat and I play the verse line over and over while our singer warms up the crowd. Very effective.

"For Nobody", by Gentle Giant.
Here's a live version, but the album version is much better to work with.
The album is called "Missing Piece", and also has other tunes on it that are really great to work out and play!

Hard to pick just one, but here are what I'd consider my top 5:

1) Hells Bells
2) Learn to Fly
3) If I Ever Lose My Faith in You
4) Speed of Sound
5) Godzilla

Continuing the Gentle Giant trend, Cogs in Cogs is another one I recently learned how to play. And it's an absolute blast once you get the hang of it.

And if anyone is interested in learning it I made a guitar pro file for it using sheet music I found on the internet:
