This is a great thread. I'm seriously considering putting together a covers band here in this small town I live in. A lot of these would go over great with most crowds around here. Mostly 30s-40s with kids demographic. An 80's-90's setlist could work very well.

Dirty Little Secret
Rebel Yell

Song 2
Living on a Prayer - this is probably the big winner, get's the girls singing along every time
Summer of 69
Jessie's Girl
Your Love
Crazy B**** - although maybe not at a wedding
Pour Some Sugar on Me
Inside Out
Paralyzer
Hey Jealousy
Anything by Green Day
Laid - this is also HUGE
Are you gonna be my girl
Anything by Journey
My own worst enemy
Anything by Sublime
Evenflow has been going over very well
Oh and Blister in the Sun gets them running to the dance floor
We play a lot of this stuff. Most works great for any age crowd. IMO.

Back to the original poster. You will find a large group on Talkbass that are helpful and share setlists that work for them. You have to find songs that work for your band and please your audience. Look at what you have to work with. Do you have a great singer with a good range? What is your guitar player style? Is your drummer a good funky groove player or a little more flashy. I would start with well known songs and work from there. Other than that i think it is wide open. Ignore people that just want to bash, look down on or criticize other people's setlist. Next thing you know they will be dumping on yours. Take positive advice for what it is worth and ignore the negativity.

Our band has had a fantasy of playing crazy b---- when the bride was walking down the aisle. We've been asked to play acoustically during the ceremony a handful of times and wanna do it without lyrics to see how many catch it lol. It'll never happen but it amuses us. Floyd, where do you play around STL? We've got a 5 piece but we play mostly west county/west plex area.

To the OP, as much as we are sick of it, some kind of Wonderful always kills for us and so does any Bon Jovi or Foreigner

We've been doing Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy and the girls go crazy for it. So much in fact we want to add another country song. Unfortunately none of us listens to country so a few suggestions would be nice. Tell me more about this "New Country"...

Are you nuts? It has a proven track record in my experience, especially 'People Say'. It's a standard.

Do people really dance to Seven Nation Army?

We're currently deciding if that one should make the cut or not.

I'm in a three piece and we have been working on "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi and surprisingly it works well stripped down. Give it a shot.
