King- Love and Pride ( very cool bass line)
Billy Idol- Dancing with Myself
Adam Ant - Goody Two shoes
The Vapors- Turning Japanese
Marys Danish-Don't Crash the Car Tonight (not dance but very cool)
The Romantics - What I Like About You (done to death but it fills a dance floor)
Huey Lewis & The News- Working For A Living( gets people dancing)
Echo & The Bunnymen-New Direction

Maybe throw in some Vandals & Black Flag to mess with them.

How about:

Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Six Months in a Leaky Boat - Split Enz
Pale Shelter / Change - Tears for Fears
West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys
I Melt With You - Modern English
Der Kommisar - Falco
Mirror in the Bathroom - English Beat
Cars - Gary Numan

I know plenty more, too. PM me if you want me to go on.
If you are going to do Devo, my recommendation is Gut Feeling and Whip It.

Possibility of a chick singer?

Walk like an Egyptian - the Bangles
Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics
Walkin' in LA / Words - Missing Persons
We Got the Beat - Go Go's
99 Luft Ballons - Nena
Voices Carry - Til Tuesday
What I Am - Edie Brickell and New Bohemians

Nice list but Six Months in a Leaky Boat is awesome...Great Call. I haven't heard that song in at least 25 years. I'm going to Itunes and downloading some Split Enz tonight

The Cars- Just What I Needed

It KILLED every time we played it no matter where we were.

It may be a bit out of your genre range, but "Something So Strong" by Crowded House was one that (surprisingly) got more response after shows than most songs we did. People would always come up and say "Man, I have always loved that song and NOBODY does it!"

Sounds like a cool project you're working on. Best of luck.

Love & Rockets - No New Tale to Tell & So Alive.

Joy Division - Transmission & Love Will Tear Us Apart

Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi

The Cure - Lullaby, Fascination Street

The Smiths - How Soon is Now

Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order. Great tune. All '80s lovers seem to dig it and its got a great melodic bass part, played played up high. Synth bass does the low stuff.

I think you might have missed the "New Wave" qualifier. Most of these songs wouldnt work for the band Im putting together. But thanks, I appreciate the suggestions nonetheless!

Has anyone mentioned "Electric Avenue" by Eddie Grant?

Not exactly nu-wave but might work for you.

I wouldn't want to hear most of them. Here are some I can stand:

Tainted Love
Brass in Pocket
One Way or Another
I Don't Like Mondays
Watching the Detectives
She Blinded me with Science
She's So Popular/Shock the Monkey
