I am considering running this ad:

I am a bassist. That is my instrument. I am looking for a band that plays out often. It does not have to be every weekend. I can also make weeknights. I am ready to rehearse regularly. I come prepared because everyone's time is valuable

I want you to know I am looking for work. I want to play out. I want to play for pay. That probably means I need to be in a cover band but I have made money in originals bands too. I have no problem playing for bands that do bars or clubs, as well as bands that do corporate gigs, weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs, fairs, rodeos what ever. As long as I'm having fun, and as long as I'm getting paid for my time, effort, and gas, I'm there.

I can play about anything on the bass, but I do not slap/pop. I have no difficulty learning new material. I play by ear or by sheet music/tablature, and have a better than average understanding of music and music theory as I had a music scholarship to college.

I am a professional that can play most anything, but enjoy rock, country; blues and blues based rock, and southern rock. I would prefer not to play shred, death metal, rap, that type of stuff.

I have a flexible work schedule and can make most schedules work. I am laid back. When I play I leave the ego at the door and hope you will do the same. Part of my reason for doing this is I love to play my bass and want to have fun and relax. I don’t want any drama. I can get along and work with about anyone. I don’t need to be the leader and I really am not looking to be the star.

I have pro bass gear (5 basses, 2 bass amps) and some sound gear (a 16 channel mixer, power amp, 16 channel pre-mixer).

I am good with fill in gigs if you need a guy to sit in some I am up for that too. I just really want to play. I understand that it takes work and commitment you should too.

I would prefer people 40+ but would consider younger people if they are mature.

I am ready to start playing.

So what exactly are you looking for???

Seriously though, I think this is a thorough ad....tells you what you're looking for and what you're not so there will be no surprises. Good luck! Only thing I would suggest is to list your influences (bands, bassists, etc).

Great idea. People alway ask me that and I have a hard time answering. I like about everything from ZZ Top to Hagard. The last concert I went to was Wide Spread Panic. I like jam bands but I am not sure I want to be in one. I like Santana and Bob Marley, most country, blues and classic
(70's) rock. I have performed acoustic stuff with just another guitar player. Kind on like Jim Croche. There are some 80's bands I like. I like the Grateful Dead and Bo Diddley. Clapton, Skynyrd. and Government Mule. I listen to Rat Dog and Led Zeppelin. My musical tastes are really quite eclectic. I don't mind Polka music either. I like Classical Music. It is really easier to say what I don't like. How do I deal with that?

I think you could shorten it up a bit. Combine a few of the paragraphs together to form single sentences. For example these two could be combined...I've found that if dudes are reading these ad's for too long, they might skip over some good stuff. Put down the most important stuff and that's it! Good luck!

This ad should get you some leads, I would think. A bass player with your qualifications would have no trouble finding work here in Mpls/St. Paul.

Sounds pretty good. Yeah very thorough. Way more detailed that a usual ad, but OK. You need a header/hook that grabs people's attention, like:
...And Enjoy Long Walks On The Beach. Something like that is going to get people to read it.

Very nice and but you will see

I made an add like this a couple of months ago, it was very clear. I was looking for the R&B, funk, disco genre...

About 90% of the responders didnt read it at all. They saw "bass player" and immediatly sent a mail for their freaking Indy rock band... I even got a response from a "Heart" tribute band HAhaha

Certainly doesn't leave many questions unanswered but in my experience, you've gotta leave a little to the imagination. Here's my most recent ad that's been very successful getting auditions:

Quote:
25 year old bass player with high-end professional gear and 11 years experience (stage & studio), interested in auditions for working bands - everything from classic to modern rock, top 40 and country.

Scratch tracks (hard rock), gear info, and more available on myspace - www.myspace.com/adamjamesbass

Email is the best way to get a hold of me.
People love hearing themselves...not other people. If I was looking for someone, I don't want to have to read a full novel on them first.
