Are all memeber in your band around the same age?

the other women in my band are not the same age as me. I am the oldest at age 31. The lead singer is 20, guitar player 23,drummer 27. I am the one who has taken charge even though it was the drummer who formed the band. I am the one who has organized brain storming sessions for naming the band and I even came up with a good number of names on our initial list and I was the one who suggested that we scarp the initial list and start over. I even suggested that we do some covers and some original songs. They want to play nu metal and I want to play 80's metal along with our our material. But i did the writing. i have sings already wriitten that I brought with me. But when we play we really rock and we dont have any issues with timing or anything. We really play well together. Also, no one seems interested in eventually getting some gigs. they seem to want to stay a garage band forever.
I was wondering if this lack of interest in the little things is because they are younger than me or what? Or if they simply dont give a rat's behind.

I'm the oldest in my band, but then, technically it's not much of a "band". Right now, all we do is practise other people's stuff... and we don't have a singer. The guitarist is 15-16, the drummer is 16, and I am 17, turning 18 in november.

The only thing I can say about them being younger is... well, they don't really wanna branch out much yet, and learn other stuff. So far all we have been doing is SOAD, and mucking aroung. I wanna get the guys to learn some stuff like Sabbath at least. I mean, they both love Iron Man, but I can't get them to learn the complete song.

The guitarist doesnt wanna learn any AC/DC (which the drummer is a fan of), because he thinks the solos are too difficult. My point, is that if he trys it, he'll get better at it.

Ah well, we have a while to go... I'll convince them eventually.

Ok.....This happens a lot. I'm currently in two bands. In one, I am the youngest, but that doesnt discount me in any way shape or form. I still have an opinion and I still manage part of the band. The other band I'm in, I'm almost the youngest...the youngest kid is only about 6 months younger, but he gets more power than me. It depends on the people your working with. This kid thinks he gets more power because he;s been "in the band" for a lot longer, but his ideas are ****. Sometimes, you just need a mediator or someone you trust to help sort things out. Many young kids ive seen around where I live are actually sometimes better musicians. Not to tune my own horn, but I'm only 15 and I've been on tour and Im about ready to go on another, but my point is, it usually doenst matter a persons age except for some maturity factos.

In the new band i'm forming so far i'm the 2nd oldest.

However, in my last band I always tried to get them to play shows and write new material and they never did. All they wanted to do was play the same 8 songs in the same order every week in the same room. Nothing changed. So I quit. Now they're playing gigs, but still playing the same 8 songs in the same order.

The band before that one, we played shows and wrote some new tunes; but everybody was wanting to do a different style of music. The 2 youngest, guitarist - 15 and singer - 16, basically got HUGE heads and no matter what you played it didn't meet their standards unless they wrote it or helped write it.

I'm in 2 bands right now -
in one of them, there are me and 2 other 17 year olds, and a 21 year old I think
My main band is a 3 piece rock band called Meltdown, and the guitarist and drummer are both married 33 year olds!

It's an interesting mix, but I think playing with older guys is SO much better than people my age, because of the experience and maturity that goes along with the age. Whenever I play with people my age, it seems I always come away from it unimpressed. The guys I play with now are extremely talented, great songwriters, and of course, have lots of connections with local booking agents, bars, etc to get us good gigs, always a plus

Last year, I recorded a CD called "Last Resistance" with my former bass teacher David Nolan, who is over 40! with that project, the huge age difference helped us create some really great music.

i'm the youngest in my band at 19. the others are 20 (the singer/gutiar), 22 (drums) and 27 (guitar/vocals). i don't think being the youngest i take less interest. i've dived in, after replacing the last bassist (23, who was a bit ****), and have tweaked the basslines to my own style and am contributing.

I'm the oldest, at 16, but I'm also the most inexperienced. Makes things a bit interesting at times.

We're all roughly the same age. I'm 31 and the other guys range in age from 27 to 32. Pretty much the same with my last band too. I prefer to play with people my own age. I think it's a big part of the reason that we have pretty good chemistry as a group. We all have very similar musical interests and tastes as well as similar values and beliefs in general. I think it helps us to understand each others needs. For example - I had to miss a band rehearsal recently so that I could take my son to his cub scout pack meeting and race his "space derby racer" that we had built together - the guys completely understood and respected what I was doing. I don't know that a bunch of 20 year olds with no wife and no kids would have been so understanding. I don't think that being the same age is absolutely necessary to have good chemistry as a group, but I think that people who are around the same age are more likely to have good chemistry.

my jazz/funk trio - me 22, keys player 26, drummer 23.

pop/rock band - the trio plus chick singer/guitarist 19, and her dad is the lead guitarist he's 45.

R&b/funk/motown group - me 22, drummer 35, guitarist 22, singer 58, keys player 50, other singers - in their 40's.

im the youngest member of each band. i really look like an odd ball in the R&b outfit, it's hilarious, but i can hold the groove with em, so i still got the job.

Evidently you won't be hittin' that anytime soon...

On topic: I'm 34, my guitarist is 41 and his brother, our drummer, is 37.

I've always been the baby, no matter what band I've been in.

it's wierd for me....being the "old man" at 22 years old, working with members a year or two younger than me, most bands I've worked with just had tensions and theneventually, a breakup. the first guitarist i ever worked with however, went to the other end of jersey and started working with 16 and 17 year olds (he's 19) and things seemed to have been turning out well for him. www.exdementia.net
