Alt rock/grunge based bands help us put some Tool covers into the set list

Hey guys, need a little help here.

If you've played any Tool along the way, or saw other bands playing some....tell me this please; what song(s) were/are played and what is the crowd response. Crowd response not meaning cheers and screams and YOU GUYS RAWK comments after the night is over. More along these lines:

1) Packed the dance floor/stage front
2) Cleared the dance floor/stage front
3) Indifferent reaction.

or stated another way:

1) Loud happy drinking bar patrons
2) Don't mind the crickets chirping when we find a better bar.
3) I'd rather play pool and darts here even though the band is okay.

Please be as specific as you can. A general "Tool goes over well around here" style of comment or "it depends on the bar and crowd in your area" won't help much. Share YOUR experiences with covering Tool songs either currently or in the past. We'd like to put one, two songs max into the mix and not waste time testing the waters with what we 'think' will be a good selection.

Thanks fellas

edit for typo

I mean, seriously, you expect to pack the dance floor with odd-time metal?

Although for metal crowds it goes pretty well.

Would you care to elaborate on your experiences playing Tool covers in clubs? That's what I'm hoping to get with this thread...nothing more, nothing less. Thanks

We're doing "Word Up". That seems to fill the floor pretty fast.

Of course it's drop-C.

Stinkfist, Hooker with a Penis, Sober would be safe choices as they are probably some of the easiest Tool tunes (barring drums which are always a nightmare) and get a crowd moshing.

We've had good luck playing the Tool version of Led Zeps' "No Quarter". Needless to say, you all have to be up to the technical challenge and willing to practice the s*** out of it.

"Sober" has been a crowd pleaser for us in the past and it's one of the easiest Tool songs to play (everything is relative). The bass has to be played with an aggressive slap/pop style that is absolutely locked in with the drums.

I've been wanting to add "Right in Two" from the last album but my bandmates have vetoed that. They say they don't want to play anything in 3/4 3/4 3/4 2/4 time. Party poopers.

+1 to Stinkfist and Sober - some of the few Tool tracks actually playable by a human drummer

For some reason, Tool and dance floor dont seem to go together for me.

The trouble with your question is that every band is different. Some bands can get people excited, others struggle.

If you guys have lousy stage presence, don't play tight, and your singer is obnoxious, it wont matter what song has worked for my band.
