So here's the deal, three of our members formed our core group on April 20th, 2008. It was a Sunday, so we came up with the name, 420 Sunday. In the early days there was some resistance to the moniker due to it's association with cannabis. However most everyone we talked to liked it and thought it was cool. So it stuck.
Fast forward to today, we have a great sound, very capable vocalist, and we are getting booked. Sounds good right? Well we get a call from a lady we did a private party for last Saturday, and she said she has been talking to other people about booking us. Well the name association is biting us in the ass. People are concerned about the association. Bar owners have even commented that we 'must smoke weed' with a name like that. We might as well forget any chances we would have at corporate gigs as well.
So we have been talking about renaming the band. We own the 420sunday.com, facebook, myspace, etc. We don't have a lot of fans so now would be the time to re-brand our image. We are a female fronted four piece that calls Tampa, FL home. We play rock/alt rock covers and are writing some good material that is not quite ready for public consumption. We are booked a few times in April, with a few more dates in May and June.
So what do we name ourselves now? We struggled with names multiple times over the last couple years. |

I agree, it's hard to come up with an original clever name folks will remember and not be controversial in anyway in this day and age of hyper political correctness. Unfortunately, my mind runs in the gutter so I'm not going to be much help. Good luck!!! |

So long as you are aware renaming your band is practically starting over, go for it. But since you appear to be getting steady work, I'd err on the side of caution.
If you do rename, perhaps The Reform or Reformers might be a fit, if its not already taken. Or Clean Slate. Or something like that.

So right away I thought of the cannabis inference. I think most will. A name change could only benefit you. Pieces of April sounds very cool. Most would not make the 3DN connect. |

As a former pot head the 420 thing screams weed to my bong rattled mind.
On the other hand Hitler was born on April 20th so you could always go that way.  .
I think the Red Sunday sounds cool and doesn`t come with any attachments.
