Another Band Name Thread...

Sorry, I know this happens a lot, but I have some ideas that I want to bounce off of you guys. Vote for one of the names above, or select other and give me a suggestion.

A few things about the band... I am going to try and do the instrumental thing, and our sound is boiling down to something similar to Explosions in the Sky and This Will Destroy You, melodic rock with acoustic influences. Looking for a name that is sort of... Epic. Not riduculous like 3 inches of blood, but something that make you stop and think.

You seem to like the tern "eyes". How about "Eyes in Orbit".

Sorry dude. ****'s just lame. But a band name is a term that comes to you naturally, not something you make up to sound epic. Take my Kreator tribute band's name for instance: Destruktor. I wanted a name that was catchy, but resembled Kreator in a way. The opposite of creator, with a K. Brilliant. Plus it sounds awesome.

Yeah, you really sound sorry (and a little arrogant...). Several of those names have been significant to me, others just came to me and kind of stuck in my mind for a few days. I have another one that I like, River Constantine. Maybe epic was a bad way to describe what I'm going for. I hope that when people hear our name they stop to consider what it means. Some of them were song names from bands that I like, another came from a philosophy class where we talked about our perception of reality, and it was a discussion that I really enjoyed. By the way, I think band names that use incorrect spelling are ridiculous.

Long names seem to me like song titles. Why not "Empire" or "Oceans". Keep it simple

There was a study done that found that bands with shorter names were MUCH more likely to stay together for longer periods of time. Something crazy.

I voted for Eyes Like Time machines (I know that's the longest...) That said, I liked all of them except "How to Dismantle". Invisible City sounds very cliche, but definitely in the vein of the influences you listed. I can definitely see "Invisible City" playing with "Explosions in the Sky". All of them are good though, except How to Dismantle. I would honestly listen to any of those bands, and the names stick out. That's important.

I just went through a rather drawn out process of getting a name for my new band. We tried a dozen variants of names with 'time' in them, or Tempus, because our main lyricist writes a lot about the subject, and we are fascinated with it.

That being said, Eyes Like Time Machines is alluring, but I agree too long. How about Eyes Like Time? Or Eyes of Time?

The one that has the best meter to my tongue is Invisible City, which sounds like a place in a science-fiction or fantasy novel. The others are interesting but in my opinion not very catchy, and although they might make one think, what do they make one think of? Is it related to your music, or does that matter to you?

Of those listed I am leaning toward Eyes Like Time Machines, but Invisible City has a lot of votes so now I'm reconsidering. I am asking some of my friends on Facebook, maybe that will give an idea of how the general public reacts to the names. I was just thinking what the names would look like as acronyms, since a lots of bands do that nowadays, and Eyes Like Oceans would be ELO. Not sure if that would be good or bad...

cool...there yah go, call the band " Stop and Think"

isn't their a few other bands with empire or empires in the name?
this whole sentence/multi word, bad name thing is too emo for me.

otherwise....In Greek mythology, The River Lethe flowed around the cave of Hypnos and through the Underworld, where all those who drank from it experienced complete forgetfulness.

so call your band " Lethe "
