I turned down a high paying New Years gig as my wife will kill me if I screw up her (planned for months) New Years Party at home.
The only gig my band is playing is next Friday the 28th. Should be a cool gig as it is at a huge Irish pub that is always packed. Takes the pressure off the band having to bring every friend/relative they have. And it is the first time we have played this place.
Nice break between Christmas and New Years.

We did a NYE show a couple years ago...while it was lucrative, it wouldn't be something I'd necessarily want to do every year. It made for a LONG day. Something kicking back and watching others perform is more fun.

Christmas party tonite, church service Sunday morning, Christmas Eve service, post-Christmas Party on the 27th, and New Years Eve. I don't understand it sometimes. We're just a local yokel bar/GB band but we seem to be a very busy band. Works out great for me. Sitting home alone on Christmas Eve or New Years Eve bites. I'd rather be out playing. Happy holidays to all out there.

My band is playing a gig tonight at a restaurant/bar that's having it's employee and supplier Christmas party tonight. This should be a really good time.
On the 29th, we're doing a multiple band gig with friends of ours that I'm really looking forward to. That one should be a night to remember.

Hopefully...), a good club date on the 28th, another day gig on the 29th, club date the 30th, plus NYE at a bar/restaurant that sits on a mountaintop, at over 9,000 feet. We have to load our gear on gondola cars to get it up there!
That one pays well. |

We had Dec 5, 6, 7, and 11 as our year end "Christmas" gigs.
Avatar is from the 5th gig when Mrs. Claus came up to sing a Christmas song.
After gigs once or twice per week all year, a break of 6 weeks goes quick and is much appreciated.

No ones wife or girlfriend was particularly happy with our NYE gig last year so we decided to get together over at the guitar players house, drink beer and champagne and have a little jam session. I'm looking forward to it.

I joined them on DEC 2nd and have played once with the whole band guitarist/singer, drummer and lead guitar/singer for the tryout like 7 songs. A week latter i did the first set 12 songs with the drummer and lead guitarist. But since then its been homework and the woodshed and 2 get togethers at the table with the lead guitarist to learn the 50 songs i need to know that night....my mind and hands are a bit numb but i think ill be ready

(29) and it comes just at the right time. Although I'm sure the game will be on at the club I'm gigging at, I'll have to record the Patriot's game on my DVR... but that's cool...
I'll get to fast-forward thru the commercials when I get home and watch it.

SOUND NAZI was running the show. Simply the most arrogant glorified soundman I've ever encountered. Horrible.
He demanded we all turn our gear waaaay down. He wanted absolute control over all volume levels, yet never helped us once along the way. We've never PRACTICED as softly as he had us set our amps! We were all instantly drowned out by the drums without even a care for monitor help. He never gave even close to enough vocal monitoring, and 4-part harmonies simply cannot be done if we can't hear ourselves. Earplugs in or out, I couldn't hear myself, nor my bass rig, even when leaning against it.
Everyone in the crowd said they heard no low end, no bass, no kick drum, nothing but shrill guitars and barely audible vocals. Trading emails all this morning, everyone in the band is just flat-out disgusted by this performance. If any of you are playing a gig in Ypsilanti MI, PM me and I'll tell you where you should NOT book a gig. Holy heck. |
