anyone in a band with slobs?

the other two guys in my band are getting on my nerves. they mess up our jam room every week to some extent. they never clean up after themselves.

guitar player will use my tuner, leave it upstairs, lose it, leave it on overnight. he'll tangle up cables and just leave them until it gets to the point where he can't move then wonders "what the?!" he'll ask to use a pick (cuz he lost his), lose mine, then ask for another.

my drummer... dear lord. broken sticks EVERYWHERE. he puts empty energy drink cans ON my amp. worst part is that after jamming a few hours, he'll proceed to take his sweaty pants off and set them in a pile right up front against my cabinet.

i'm by no means perfect either, i leave coffee cups downstairs in our jam room sometimes, they get moldy, i clean them up.

this is the worst part; when i suggest that we take better care of our jam room, i get made fun of for being "neat". for caring too much and for not wanting to jam in a pig sty.

yeah, im just kinda pissed about it.

anyone else in a band with slobs?

I'd try to outdo them. Show up dirty & smelly, forget your bass, amp, cords or other essential items. If that doesn't work & it bothers you enough, find more like-minded folks to play with.

Edit: You really ought to kick your drummer in the ****s.

Wow! You should take a dump in the drummer's kick drum and see how he likes it!

If you're leaving coffee cups down there long enough to grow mold, you're a slob too.

I used to be (emphasis on USED to).

We were all talking about getting a house together, and I ended up moving in w my then fiance (now wife) and I would go to their house to practice.

Dude....

just...disgusting. Beer bottles stuffed w cigarette butts, unwashed dishes all over the place, equipment and wires scattered all over the place. And let's not get into some of the 'mystery smells' that were there. The cleanliness of the band/practice space wasn't the reason I left the band, but man am I glad I did.

Regarding your situation, I feel people are most creative in a band situation when there isn't tension between band members. And this is obviously becoming a problem for you.

First, I would let them know the reason you want to be a so-called 'neat-freak' (which is an overstatement from what I understand) is because of your dedication to the music and band and wanting you guys to be the best you can be in all areas.

Additionally, it's also about respect; the guitarist's disregard for your personal property is just outright rude if not completely disrespectful.
He's gotta understand that this type of behavior is ultimately detrimental to the overall health of the band, and if he was truly dedicated to the project he would shape up a little bit.

My guitarist always carried his cables in a canvas bag, in what could only be called a knot. His Boss pedalboard (the one with the built-in jacks) got... disgusting with debris. When he made a new one (-had- it made) it had no lid, and he just carried it around with cables piled in a nest on top, pedals exposed (including some he borrowed from me!). He never changed strings until one snapped, so they got to looking like fish hooks do when you've had a few too many worms on them. He didn't clean his guitars, to the point that the hardware and pickup poles are rusty, to varying degrees. He tossed empty water bottles and shed clothing wherever.

Just before moving out of state last week, I let him stay with me for two weeks. He was nice enough to wash my dishes and clean the counter tops (because my place was filthy!). Then tracked about 40lbs. of dirt and leaves into the place, left stacks of pizza boxes and empty cans & bottles around.

And my two active basses have dead batteries all of a sudden.

Nice enough guy, but sometimes...

We practice in our guitarist's room. It's small and cramped, but hey, it's a place to practice. He keeps it so messy, me and my drummer gag every time we find more soiled underwear. It's is also terrible when we find his "happy" towels. And his "Glory" hole. Man we give him a hard time! He is a slob.

i was playing guitar for a band a few years ago, and our bassist quit showering to "save time." Between work, school, band....he figured that cutting out personal hygene would save him up to an hour a day that he could use for something else(probably playstation time, honestly.) Anyways....after the 2nd week he announced this, he came to practice smelling HORRIBLE. after about 30 minutes of practice the whole room smelled like his awful B.O. it was nauseating. anyways, we quit rehearsal and drove to our drummers house where we required him to shower while we washed his clothes. ugghhh!!!

A nice, sausage sized hole in the wall conveniently located next to the bed. Gross, huh?

That would be reason enough I'd never go back for practice. Sorry but I don't need the practice that bad.

The barn may smell worse but at least you'll know where it all came from. On the other hand, can anyone even imagine what a band of neat freaks would sound like? What would they play.....ABBA?

At practice, when I'm getting rid of my empties, I'll grab any other bottles or cans nearby, since I'm going out to the recycle bin anyway. And I take any dead 9V and AA batteries to be recycled. (This goes for the 3 bands I'm a full-time member of, and several side bands as well.) But that's as far as I go. A neat freak I ain't!
