Anyone else torture yourself by checking "musicans" listings

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, I'm in a good band, I like my bandmates, I've put in a good 2 years working with them and we have a very busy summer of good paying gigs coming up. I only have room for one musical project in my life right now, yet somehow I keep going to the craigslist "musicians" section and looking at the ads for bass players.

Yeah, Craigslist has alot of jokers,(as evidenced by many TB threads) but the Chicago board is pretty active and it seems like everytime I'm there I see a project (sometimes more than one) with links to tunes that sound like something I'd like to try.

I know I'd be stupid (really stupid) to switch groups, and I don't even want to, but I just can't stop looking...

Anyone else suffer from this compulsion?

actually I'm in two bands because of it, that's how I found the second one, and I STILL check there all the time. As if I have time to join another....

actually i do torture myself that way
seems nobody in the area needs a good bassist.
problem is, none of the bands i see have good bassists.
so i'm confused. i guess everyone gave up on the idea of having a talented low-ender, or nobody knows (or cares) what a bassist can do for a band.
either way, i sit at home on friday nights, and the scene is poorer for it.

Yep.. I look at CL daily. There is usually pretty entertaining discussions about "Cover Bands vs. Original Bands" or something or other. Very entertaining

Thanks guys,
Glad to see that I'm not alone. I'd start a support group, but I'm not sure if I really want to change yet.

I totally understand this. I've seen some good bassists, but at least as common common is the barely adequate bassist or the lead singer who plays bass (not well).

i also like to look at what's around. but i usually don't see much that interests me.
largely i do it for amusement. there are lots of incredibly dumb posts. there are about 4 a day of:
"yo wuzzuP i like music s lot. let's strt a band. " no other information whatsoever. i always wonder if anyone responds to those.

I do this from time to time, and even contact people, but when I actually consider the time involved in being in a band I realize I just can't do it right now.

I still look. I think that if I saw something really good, I would go for it, but I can't imagine that there's a whole lot of great bands putting ads on CL.

BTW, does anyone know of other musicians' listings?

I have often wanted to start a band that did noise/impromtu music - without any rehearsals. somehow find gigs that would allow it. Just show up and play something - and let it happen live and spontaneously.

While searching for a vocalist w/keys or rhythm guitar for my band I browse through anything that looks interesting....I have no time for a second project but its nice to know that should this one go south I do have options.

I search CL every day for singers, but yes I am happy with my band but I always look at the bass player ads. I have cut back on that now. I try to tell my self that the grass is always greener on the other side until you get there.

CL Cruising

Every day, for two cities, plus some others. But there are a lot of flakes on CL, and I've decided to start going for paid subscription finder sites. My experience is that either the poster doesn't have it together enough to follow through, even with email/phone, or if you do get together they don't appreciate what you've brought to the party until you blow 'em off.

Ya i do it alot. I see alot of interesting things like bands i know breaking up adding or firing players etc. Just last fall i was looking and although i am in a great band the travel and age of the band has me a bit worried. The band is solid but i thought ...what if? I found a great local singer/songwriter who lives a few miles away . I contacted him and we have been getting together once a week going over his originals. I now have another band that does all originals and we are going to the studio next month. I have a new musical interest a friend and I expanded my musical knowledge and path..a win.
