We're starting a tribute band for the Foo Fighters. I played through a few songs, and I'm familiar with them, just not my #1 group or anything.
Anyone have any tips for playing their stuff well? Or general tips for this specific type of tribute band? |

Nate Mendel uses a Full Tone Bass Drive and a Tuner with his rig and that's it. I do know that. |

For one, you can't see them around here very often at all. (midwest)
For two, if a band sounds just like the FF, and you like the FF, why not check out a good sounding live band that's playing your favorite music. Isn't that the theory behind any tribute band outside of bringing back the hits?
For three, it's a rock band, who wouldn't go if it's good quality?
Thanks for the tip on what he plays, I was curious on that. There's not a whole lot of tone there on most of the tracks. |

But a full tribute band of Foo Fighter stuff? I Love Grohl and FF but I like getting gigs more. I think that would be a real tough sell IMO.

I was almost going to do a tribute to them (with the guys in the link above), but it seems like a lot of work for what might be very little payback. I also don't think they've been around long enough for a tribute - and while I like their music I don't like it THAT much. |

I don't think you should have too tough a time...are you in the Twin Cities? There should be enough places to play that kind of material, especially with all the local colleges.
If you want to do it, go for it, assuming you really enjoy their music. As far as any tips on playing them, I don't know that you need to do anything special. All their tracks I've bothered to play before have been fairly easy, just a matter of getting the changes down correctly (like anything else). The bass tone should be easy to nail with decent equipment.
I think a good drummer would be critical, but again, like any rock band. The lead singer needs to have decent range, and a workhorse throat (as mentioned), to really make a band like this work.

We just all enjoy the music and want to play once or twice a month. The guy knows some places that would take us without even listening pretty much, so that's not a problem.
There are lots of places due to the colleges, you're right.
Any other bands you think would fit? I don't think we'll mess with it RIGHT now, but down the road if we get popular-ish maybe. |
