Been to. Not played (maybe someday....). I had a blast when I went. I especially liked being able to meet bands at the non-main stages. And it's fun looking for bands that you've never heard before. It's just tough (for me) to catch all the bands I want to see since there are something like 10 bands playing at any given time on different stages.

My main complaint was the kids at the main stages who make it very obvious that they only go to maybe two shows a year, if that.

I'd LOVE to get a chance to play Warped, though. Especially if it's a "hometown" stop.

I toured with the warped tour about 4 years agos but i didn't play.(only tx dates) I guess i was a roady for Ten Times A Day but i didn't do much, just walked around tryin to sell cds, but it got me in for free, and it included all access. At the end of every show all of the bands had a huge BBQ in the parking lot. It usually consisted of drinking, eating, smoking and the whole rockstar thing. It was a lot of fun but by the time they moved on from tx i was glad it was over. There's no way i could live like that. I met and got to chill with a bunch of cool bands though. Rxbandits, Yellowcard, Thrice, NoFx(fat mike is a really weird guy but cool as hell), No use for a name, bad religion, Reel big fish(these guys are a blast to hang out with)and so on. Too many to list and too many to remember. All in all i wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

I played the entire warped tour this year. it was very different from a club tour and yes rediculously hot. Lots of fun though. I consider it to be more of a rock n roll carnival than a concert. It's all about luring people in to watch your band, buy your stuff, etc and at the end of the day... sooo much garbage. yikes.

I'm curious - what kind of money did you pull down when all was said and done?

I'm real interested how something like this compares to hopping in a van and doing clubs.

While I'm not sure if his band did this, but most of the opening bands on the tour pay to play the tour. In fact, quite a few bands don't even get payed gaurentees, no matter what they tell you in the end. The Warped Tour is about promotion, and selling merchandise. My good friend roadies for Voodoo Glow Skulls and said they brought in around $3,000.00 from merch on average, although they brought in more on a few nights.

I was paid as a hired musician and the rate was the same as any other tour ive been on. But with this tour we also had to build whatever stage we were playing on, set up a merch tent (that would often be far away from our stage, so we'd have to work really hard to get people over) and actually be up in the daylight. It's not like a club tour where usually all you have to do is set up merch in their booth, set up, play and party... the partying was minimal, and only for bigger bands that didnt have to bust their bottoms all day.

I also insist on having a tour bus for warped - a van will kill you. at the very least get a reliable RV with amazing air conditioning.

edit: yes i believe we (err the label) paid to be on the tour. It is totally about promotion and gettting your name out.
