Anyone in Toronto need a drummer?

My friend Mateus just moved to the great white north. After a bout with dysentery, no doubt brought on by foolishly drinking the water, he's looking for a band in need of a drummer. He's awesome on a kit, and he plays congas/timbales too. (He's originally from Brazil)

PM me if you want his contact info.

Nope. He lived here for a good number of years (college and beyond) and played with a few band around town. I've played with him in church, and he's just a pleasure to play with (IMHO).

His wife got a job in Toronto, and he's been there maybe a week or so.

His is spelled with an E, but it must be a common name.

Hmm, one of my uncle's friends is called Matheus, he's a percussionist and he moved abroad recently. Do you know which city he (your friend) is from?

I have no clue where he's from originally. (I probably should, huh?) He came to Grand Rapids Michigan to attend Calvin College. I played with him in church a few times, and saw his band play out occasionally as well.

It seems that every Brazilian I've ever met plays drums or percussion. Does everyone down there learn to play drums beofre they can speak?

Hahaha, not really. Most of our music is quite percussive. Think of bossa nova, samba, etc. Those genres inspired a lotta people here.
As a result of that, percussionists and drummers from Brazil are globally known to be really groovy (Kick me in the nads right now if the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of brazillian music isn't the word percussion), and that's why brazillian drummers are common out there.

They raise some pretty good bull riders as well; just check out the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) top 25 and see how many are from Brazil.

I always think Bossa Nova and guitar first. (Sorry bout your nads!) My father was very much a fan of Joćo Gilberto. I bet I heard the Getz / Gilberto recording twice a week from the time I was five until I moved out.
