I tried it about 4 years ago. I used it as a vehicle to get summer festival gigs for my blues band. I did not have a lot of success. I think it was a combo of our band not being well known in the area, the large number of bands that responded to gig postings and not having personal/professional connections festival insiders. It only cost about $5 per festival application so it didn't cost much to fail. I was going to try again last summer as my band had become a little bit more known. However, when I went to submit some applications I found the cost had gotten higher: $10 - 20 per festival application. Based on previous lack of success and the previous observation that the bands hired for these festivals since sonic bids was instituted were the same bands that had always played there, I decided it was not worth the money. Using the old school method (phone calls, visits and drop-off/e-mail publicity packages), I was able to get us into a couple of summer festivals.

I agree. I was all set to do the same (use it for summer festivals) until a few others told of the same story you are telling. The fees were low and IMO stupid and now they are way too high. I prefer the old DIY approach which has worked for us. Some of the festivals they book for pay little to unknown bands and some pay nothing at all... so be careful.

Generally agreed boys.We still do the DIY approach also.I put 100$ away just to try it out for a while.

But I still prefer the old phone call, email, etc.

Thx dudes...
