Appropriate attire for an outdoor arvo gig?

Between ferrying my kids to piano lessons, piano exams and then xmas piano recitals today, our singer has booked us to play at at xmas party which is being held outdoors. We have no shade and it can get 'flamin hot round here at this time of year and the UV factor gets up to abt 14 on a day like this. Apart from sunblock, hats etc, are there any tips on how to make this as easy as it can be? Colothing colours, keeping the instuments in tune, reinforcing the bass sound, which I'm sure will be difficult in this situation?

Can you bring your own shade sources? Like some kind of canopy or partial tent? It's not hard or expensive to rig some homemade shades out of tarps and PVC piping...

Definitely wear loose-fitting light-coloured clothing that leaves little skin exposed to the sun. Have plenty of water on hand to combat dehydration.

The tent idea is a good one - prob is the wind is up now and we have a severe weather warning in place. Wind speeds avg 65km/h with gust up to 90km/h. Rain also on the way. Bummer. I really don't want to cancel so we'll give until an hor before and make a decision. The whole town lost power last night when trees fell on the power lines so we need to make sure all is safe.

Well, the wind brought rain clouds so we were put under an awning after our first 2 songs. We got through our sets and threw in half a dozen we've not yet got perfected as the crowd were friendly and a few of them were half cut as well. Everyone had a good time and we've been invited back. I'll put this one down as a good day.
