well I talked to him yesterday and asked him if he was going to be there tonight. his reply was; "uh yeah do you wanna play"? my reaction was: "then I wouldn't have called".(the fact that I feel the need to call him is disturbing)

anyway he said he'll be there tonight. I feel skeptical of his attitude. Should i lay off the whole attitude thing and just be happy he's playing?

Perhaps you should ask him what his long term goals are and see if they line up with yours. At least then you will know and can make a more informed choice.

that is a good idea. We had a discussion a month ago where he seemed into it for the long haul it is just lately he's been aloof.

Well in a bazaar turn of events my drummer was kicked out of his house (our practice space) and is now moving out of state! in the end it really had nothing to do with the flakey guitarist!!

damn this sucks!

and then there was one

Same with me.

Our drummer just got an email from him saying something like "Hey, if that sniffle of yours hasn't cleared-up by thursday, it would only be reasonable cancel our Saturday gig".

He's good, no doubt, but he never practices on his own, only band practices - I practice on-average maybe 9-14 hours everyweek on my own, outside of band rehearsals. He looks for every excuse to cancel rehearsals or even gigs! ..and in the days approaching every rehearsal he says "Let's get started as early as we can, because I have to take off early". I can't remember the last time he stayed around to just visit with us after a practice.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that one.

As far as canceling a gig over a sniffle; no excuse!!
I once played a show just twelve hours after being discharged from the hospital!! I couldn't even keep water down.

Now there's a trooper!!

I love to play and play as often as I can... Sometimes I wonder about some of the other dudes I play with. To me, if you want to be a musician... you should want to play. Otherwise... Umm... what the heck are you doing being a musician? I suppose it gives you the ability to tell your friends "I can do that" when a cool song comes on the radio... But on the other hand, if you never play your friend's appropriate response should be "Yeah right!" ....

Open mics... That's where the real musicians are while their bandmates are screwing around doing nonessential stuff like eating, sleeping, and working...

I'm not that hardcore, but I played a couple sets one night -- c'ept on this particular night, I was feeling physically worse than almost any other point in my life. Migraine headache, wanting to vomit, no food, muscle aches, the whole 50 yards. The only worse time was when my throat hemorrhaged and I vomited up 3L of blood...luckily, I wasn't in a band at the time .

I've been having a lot of problems with my guitarist lately. Even the drummer was posting about him on drumdogs.com -- apparently the singer spoke to him about it last night...she says she thinks he "hurt his feelings." Can't say I feel too sorry for the jerk, seeing as how he's treated the rest of us for the past 4 or so months.

damn that's gross! that one gig after the hospital I could only hammer out about eight songs. luckily the soundtech was late so our time was shorter than expected. My girl was pissed she still brings that up and that was two and half years ago.
